What is pink grapefruit essential oil?

Pink grapefruit essential oil is a clear yellow liquid derived from citrus paradisi, which is the fruit of the grapefruit tree. The grapefruit tree is indigenous to the Caribbean and grows best in subtropical climates. It can grow 20 to 45 feet high, and its flowering branches produce clusters of round, juicy fruits with thick peels. The commercial market for the fruit grew considerably starting in the late 1800s.[1]

What does pink grapefruit essential oil do in our products?

Pink grapefruit essential oil gives our products a fresh, natural scent. It is often found in moisturizer, lip balm, bath products, deodorant, and other items.[2]

Why Puracy uses pink grapefruit essential oil

We use pink grapefruit essential oil in several of our products as a fragrance. It is a better alternative to synthetic perfumes and phthalates. The FDA has deemed grapefruit oil generally recognized as safe (GRAS), and Whole Foods deems it acceptable in its body care and cleaning products.[4,5] The Cosmetics Ingredient Review has also deemed the ingredient safe for use.[6] Grapefruit oil helps treat muscle fatigue and acne, and research shows the ingredient is not a strong skin irritant or sensitizer.[7,8,9]

How pink grapefruit essential oil is made

Pink grapefruit essential oil is traditionally produced by soaking the rind of the fruit in water, then pressing the rind and collecting the excreted oil when it separates from the water. Today, however, a more efficient process involves using a machine to prick the rind and then separating the oil using centrifugal force.[3]
